Indian Election The Electoral Machinery: The Electoral machine was proposed in 1977 and the Electronics Corporation of India (ECIL) was tasked with the development of the same. In 1979, a working model was developed and was showcased to various political parties on 6 August 1980. The Supreme Court of India ruled that sections 59-61 of the Representation of People Act 1951 specified paper ballots and it, therefore, forbade the use of any other technology including electronic voting. The court stated that the use of an alternate technology would require the Indian parliament to amend the law.
